PROJECT DESCRIPTION
Hotel Okura Manila’s lobby atrium is a captivating testament to the vision of recreating a storybook experience of Japan, rarely found in today's modern digital world.
As guests step into the six storey atrium, they are immediately transported into the enchanting diversity of the Japanese countryside, where time seems to stand still. The ingenious design application of modern glass and steel seamlessly integrates the dramatic mountain ranges, flat rice fields, green forests, charming small towns with wooden houses, and temples from the Edo period, evoking a vivid imagery that lingers in one’s mind.
The lobby atrium is further enhanced by the bar, concierge, and private dining pavilion, each designed to represent the distinctive architecture found in small, charming towns scattered all over Japan. To evoke the majestic mountain ranges, the walls of the atrium are ingeniously crafted using metal slats, enhanced with strategic lighting and printed film that bring the imagery to life, immersing guests in the awe-inspiring beauty of Japan's landscapes.
The heart of the atrium houses the check-in pavilion, the canopy is made with custom see-through glass roof tiles that offer a captivating view of the surrounding environment. Above the check-in pavilion floats a bespoke sculptural light installation known as "the flight chandelier." This exquisite chandelier created by renowned British designer Sharon Marston, exudes a dramatic lighting reminiscent of the first few days of“Tsuyu”, Japan's rainy season.
In true Japanese spirit, the Bonsai tree has become a symbol of harmony, balance, patience and even luck. Installing breath-taking giant bonsai trees stirs the senses with nature’s awe-inspiring grandeur. These meticulously crafted bonsai trees add a touch of tranquil artistry further elevating the atmosphere of the atrium.
