Grosvenor House, London
Hotel, Heritage / United Kingdom / HBA London / Completed In 2016
PROJECT DESCRIPTION
The flamboyant, star-studded heritage of London's Grosvenor House has been imaginatively revived by The Gallery HBA to celebrate the hotel's rich history, enhance its "sense of place" with the neighbouring Hyde Park, and transform the public areas into a destination in their own right. Gone is the previous conventional, dark décor, with the lobby's traditional fireplace now exchanged for one encased in a floor-to-ceiling glass and thereby opening up the ground floor between Park Street and Hyde Park with light and freshness from the park vista beyond. From morning coffee to afternoon tea and evening cocktails, the public areas have become a social hub aided by a streamlined spatial flow connecting the lobby, library and Park Room. English in taste with contemporary twists, the elegantly feminine design mixes delightful parkland references with playful allusions to the hotel's theatrical and risqué history through acts such as the famous Grosvenor House Girls.
