Ocean Reef Club, Key Largo
Resort / United States / HBA Miami / COMPLETED IN 2021
PROJECT DESCRIPTION
The Ocean Room is one of the most traditional buildings of the Ocean Reef Club, where members go to socialize daily. Built in the 1950’s, it went through several partial renovations and expansions.
Our goal was to give the whole building a more consistent and cohesive design, more oriented to the present and the future of the Club, while staying connected to its origins. The narrative of the project was developed by carefully studying the history and culture of the club, as well as its natural environment and local architecture. We wanted to convert the building back into a home just like Morris Baker did when he discovered this unique fishing camp and decided to build his house here.
The result is a project exclusively designed for its site and people. It perfectly captures the environment of the Keys and its colonial architecture by combining the use of natural and noble materials with refined millwork details. At the same time, the elegance and exclusivity of its customers is enhanced by bespoke furniture and lighting. The history of the club is carefully narrated through artworks, photo collages and a big variety of objects and accessories.
